It is like we never seem to experience real rest when we are
constantly connected in the world. The endless scrollings, notifications and
digital overload absorb our concentration and attention. That is how the power
of a digital detox is created a basic, yet a powerful activity that will make
you reset your thinking process, loose contact with yourself, and restore your
well-being.
1. What Is a Digital Detox?
A digital detox is a deliberate
break of spending time in front of screens (phones, tablets, computers, and
television). It gives your brain some time to rest and beckons you to connect
more harmoniously with the real world.
Why it matters: Disproportionate screen time may create
anxiety levels, cyclically undermine sleep and severely curtail social lives in
real life.
2. Signs You Might Need One
- You are reaching out to your phone a few minutes after you got up in the morning
- When you are not with your device you are anxious
- You can not concentrate on something without being distracted
- The social media is sucking your self-esteem
·
The awareness of these symptoms is all you need
in order to reclaim your attention and mental peace.
3. Simple Steps into Your Digital Detox
- Schedule Tech-Free Times: Attempt tech-free times after you wake and before you go to bed and attempt 1 hour each.
- No-Phone Zones: Put the phones and devices away and leave them in the bedroom, dining area and bathroom.
- Turn Off Alerts: We don not need distractions in our mind, turn-off unwanted notifications.
- Mind Your Airplane Mode: Turn off your phone to airplane mode when you are on a meal or outdoor strolling.
4. Screen Substitute Activities
Digital detoxing does not only mean cutting things out, it
is also an addition of things:
- Read a hardcopy book
- Have a nature walk
- Write a journal or do a sketching
- Make something out of nothing
- Go on a chat-free talk with a friend or family member
- Connection is alive when offline.
5. The Challenges to Do Digital Detox
- 24-Hour Unplug: Choose one day in the weekend and spend it without the screen during 24 hours
- 7 Day Social Media Detox: Erase or log off social apps: A whole week
- Mindful Mornings: I will not use the phone the first hour every day during 7 days
Monitor the way that you feel and what becomes different to
you.
Final Thoughts
You do not have to give up on technology altogether but
change your relationship with it. Digital detox has to do with setting healthy
limits such that technology does not take away your life, but it works as an
aid to it.
Start small. It would be a success even just 10 minutes
without your phone. You will be surprised by how much offline time can do to
your well being.
